In the King’s Cup, where our own King Billy is the referee, there are no mistakes. You see, our benevolent ruler
King Billy has the eyes of an eagle, the mind of a computer and the feet of a cheetah. It does help a little bit
also that no one can challenge his calls.
However, the King himself has challenged his Scholars! “Find me” he ordered “the 5 worst mistakes in World Cup! Let
the refs of this World Cup see and try never to repeat ”!
So, here they are for your eyes only, oh refs and Citizens! The 5 worst referee blunders in World Cup history!
MISTAKE NUMBER 5
ITALY 1990 – RUDY VOELLER WINS A PENALTY
The match: Germany – Argentina. Rudy Voeller falls too easily inside the box and gets the penalty. Andreas
Brehme finds the net with no more than the length of a newspaper separating the Argentine goalkeeper’s hand from
the ball and Germany is the winner.
GERMANY 2006 – SIMUNIC’S 3 YELLOW CARDS
The match: Croatia – Australia. Croatian defender Josep Simunic is given three yellow cards by referee Graham
Poll before he is sent out. This outrageous incident led to the referee’s retirement
MISTAKE NUMBER 2
SOUTH AFRICA 2010 – FRANK LAMPARD’S DISALLOWED GOAL
The match: Germany - England. If you are from England, you could never stop being mad at this no matter how many
times you saw it! There was however one benefit from the worldwide outcry: goal line technology. Watch it here
with BBC commentary:
MISTAKE NUMBER 1
MEXICO 1986 – THE HAND OF GOD
The match: Argentina – England. Probably the most infamous goal in the history of football, a goal that will be
talked about for many decades, and why not, centuries.
So, these were the top 5 errors of all time in World Cup refereeing! Will we see more in Russia’s World Cup? Not
probably with VAR technology entering the game. Citizens, sit back, enjoy the games and don’t forget to claim
your 21% bonus during the World Cup with the King’s Cup! < Back to the blog
